Finally got the hang of fading the occipital bone area after 3 rough cuts
Kept leaving a dark shadow right there until an older barber told me to open my clipper lever more gradually instead of a straight flick... anyone else struggle with that transition point?

Man that's a solid tip right there. It's funny how the small adjustments nobody talks about end up being the key to leveling up. Reminds me of how learning to fix things around the house goes, you struggle with the obvious stuff for ages then someone shows you one little trick and it all clicks.

Honestly @taylorc40 that's a really good point about house stuff too. Like I spent months messing with a squeaky door and the fix was literally just tightening one screw nobody tells you about. What kind of small adjustment did you have in mind though? Because the ones that are actually useful seem to be the ones nobody thinks to mention until you're already frustrated.

Hear me out but I see that "one little trick" idea differently. Half the time those "simple fixes" people toss out assume you already understand the basics of whats actually going wrong. When I was learning to cut hair I had guys tell me to "just open the lever more gradually" but they never explained why that helps blend the weight line or what angle your wrist should be at when you do it. Same with the squeaky door example - sure you can tighten one screw but if you don't know how to locate the right screw or why the door is sagging in the first place you're just guessing. Those tiny adjustments only work once you got the fundamentals down, otherwise you're just spinning your wheels trying random advice.
