Hot take: those expensive clipper oil blends are a waste

I spent $35 on a fancy scented oil blend for my clippers last month, thinking it would be better than standard clipper oil. It gummed up my blades after three cuts and I had to deep clean everything. Anyone else stick to plain oil and skip the gimmicks?

Right? And the thing is, the fancy oils always have all these essential oils and additives that are just not meant for metal parts that get hot and spin fast. The basic mineral oil is super thin and just does its job without leaving any gunk behind. I tried one that was supposed to be "aromatherapy" for the barber and it literally smelled like a candle and made my clippers feel sluggish after two cuts. Plain oil has never given me a single problem in like five years of cutting my own hair, so I'm sticking with it.

Did I just buy the same stuff? Because I fell for that exact same trap a few months ago. It smelled like lemons and peppermint, which I thought would be nice, but it turned my blades into a sticky mess after one haircut. I spent like an hour cleaning everything with alcohol and a toothbrush, feeling like a total idiot. Now I just use the basic white bottle oil from the hardware store and it works perfectly fine. My clippers smell like a shop instead of a spa, but hey, they actually cut hair.
