I finally ditched my old straight razor after a close call last week.
I was finishing a shave on a regular in my Chicago shop when the blade caught on a tiny nick and pulled way too hard. I switched to a fresh shavette mid-service and the rest was smooth, no blood. Who else has had a tool they trusted for years just fail on them?

Describe the "close call" in more detail. Did the razor just pull, or did it actually jump and cut you? Makes me wonder if the blade was just old and brittle, or if the angle was off that day.

My old cordless drill from 2012 finally gave up last month. I was putting up a shelf and the chuck just locked up, smoked a little, and died. It had survived two apartments and a house renovation. Felt weird throwing a tool in the trash after all that time.

That's a solid run for a cordless drill, honestly. Makes you wonder if they even build them to last that long anymore, right? @jake986, you got your money's worth and then some. Kind of a fitting end, smoking out on a job instead of just fading away. Still, tossing a loyal tool does feel like losing a piece of your own history.
