I was holding my clippers wrong for the first two years

I was cutting a guy's hair last month and my wrist just gave out halfway through a fade. He looked at me and said, 'Dude, you're gripping that thing like you're trying to choke it.' I realized I was holding the clippers with my whole fist, which was causing all the strain. Now I let them rest in my fingers and use my thumb to guide, and it's a total game changer. Anyone else have to unlearn a basic grip habit?

Man, that sounds so familiar. I used to white-knuckle my chef's knife for years until a cook told me my hand looked like a claw. I was squeezing the handle way too tight instead of letting the blade do the work. My forearm would ache after prepping anything. Loosening up my grip felt wrong at first, but it made everything smoother. What other basic stuff do we just muscle through without knowing?

Honestly, I did the same thing with a hammer until my whole wrist hurt.

So we're all just out here strangling our tools? @nina_campbell, at least your hammer didn't fight back.
