My clippers died mid-fade on a paying customer yesterday
I was doing a skin fade on a regular of mine, right in the middle of the blend, and my Wahl Magic Clips just stopped spinning. No warning, no weird noise, just dead. I had to grab my backup corded clippers to finish the job, but the cut wasn't as clean and it threw off my whole rhythm. The guy was cool about it, but I felt like an amateur standing there with a dead tool in my hand. I think the battery finally gave out after three years of heavy use. Has anyone else had a clipper die on them during a cut? What did you do to fix it or replace it?

Bro, have you ever had that sinking feeling in your gut when your tool just quits on you like that? I've had a similar thing happen with my own clippers when I was really in the zone. It's the absolute worst because you lose all your confidence and the client can totally feel that awkwardness in the air.
What I learned the hard way is to always keep a backup pair fully charged and ready to go, even if it's just a cheap corded set. I actually went out and bought two of the same model after my first one died. That way my hand remembers the weight and feel even if I have to swap mid-cut. It's not about being fancy, it's about not getting caught with your pants down again.
Since you got three good years out of those Magics, you might want to check if the battery is replaceable on your model. Some shops can swap them for like twenty bucks. But honestly, if the motor is tired too, a fresh tool might be worth it just for the peace of mind. Nothing worse than that little voice in your head wondering if your clipper is gonna crap out on the next head.

Something people forget too is that heat can kill these things just as fast as a bad battery. @matthewmartin mentioned getting a backup which is smart, but if you're running clippers back to back without letting them cool down, that motor's gonna cook itself no matter how new it is. Might be worth rotating between two pairs during a busy day just to give each one a breather. Those Magics run hot if you push em hard.

that sinking feeling in your gut" is so real man. I keep a spare set of blades and a corded clipper in my bag now just so I never have to feel that again. Also learned the hard way to let them cool down between cuts on busy days, those Magics get hot fast.
