Read a study that said over 60% of barbers in my state don't have a proper business plan, which explains a lot

My cousin tried to open a barber shop last year. He had the skills, got the chair, the whole setup. Lasted about eight months before he had to close. Turns out he was just guessing on prices and rent, no real plan for the slow months. That number doesn't surprise me at all.

Used to think anyone with a good skill could run a shop, no problem. Hearing stories like @perry.fiona's about her cousin really shows the gap between knowing how to cut hair and knowing how to run a business. That stuff about guessing on rent and having no plan for slow months is exactly what sinks people. Makes total sense why so many close up fast, it's a whole different job.
