Swore by my cheap clippers for 5 years until a barber in Dallas let me try his Wahl Seniors

After one pass on a fade I finally realized my $40 set was leaving lines no amount of flicking could fix and now that I dropped $200 on the Seniors I'm wondering how many haircuts I butchered before.

My buddy Tom had this cheap Wahl set from Walmart for like 4 years. He'd spend an hour on every fade and still end up with these weird little steps he couldn't smooth out. Saved up and bought some Andis Masters after I told him to just try a better pair. First cut he did on himself he called me and said he almost cried. Not joking. He said the blade just glided through and suddenly all those tricks he'd learned were pointless. Now he's obsessed with keeping them clean and oiled. He still talks about all the haircuts he ruined back then.

Got a similar upgrade a couple years ago and yeah it hurt my feelings realizing how many fades I'd messed up before. The difference in blade drive is just night and day with the nicer ones.

Buddy of mine had that same cheap set for years and thought he was a fade god. Came over to my place last summer to cut his son's hair and I handed him my old Magic Clips. First pass he just stared at the blade and said "well I've been fighting my clippers for nothing." He bought a set of Babyliss Pros the next week and texts me every time he does a clean lineup now.
