That $200 clipper cord I cheaped out on almost cost me a client today
So I figured I'd save some cash and bought a generic replacement cord for my Oster 76s off Amazon for like $12 instead of spending the $45 for the real one. Worked fine for about a month. Then today I'm doing a bald fade on this regular who's super particular and the cord just starts sparking mid cut. Had to finish with my backup trimmer while he's sitting there looking at me like I'm a fire hazard. Not a good look. Now I gotta buy the real cord and probably lost that guy as a repeat customer. Anyone else learn the hard way that cheap cords aren't worth it?

nah i read somewhere that those cheap cords use thinner copper or something, they just can't handle the power draw over time. sounds like you got lucky it didn't fry your clippers too.

Is it just me or does this whole thing kind of mirror how people treat their cars too? Like they'll go for the absolute cheapest oil change special or those bargain bin windshield wiper blades that streak after a week. You end up spending the same amount of money in the long run anyway because you're replacing stuff three times as often. That cheap cord might work fine for a while but the copper thing is real. I've seen the inside of those $5 cables and it's basically hair compared to a quality one. It's not about being fancy it's about the cord being built to actually do the job it's supposed to do.

Respectfully disagree. I've been using generic replacement cords for years on my own gear and never had one spark on me, sounds like you just got a dud from a bad seller. The real issue is probably buying the absolute cheapest option instead of a reputable third party brand with good reviews.
