The chair that taught me to stop chasing perfection

Back in March I did a two week guest spot at a shop in Nashville, old school place with worn seats and mirrors with spots. The owner watched me spend twenty minutes evening out a fade that already looked good. He just said "son, the client left happy ten minutes ago." That stuck with me. Since then I time myself. If I can't finish the cut in forty five minutes, I step back and ask if I'm fixing a problem or feeding my own ego. Has anyone else had a moment where you realized you were overworking a cut for yourself, not the person in the chair?
