TIL a 72 year old guy in my chair taught me more about fades in 20 minutes than 2 years of videos
Had a walk-in last Tuesday at my shop in Boise, older guy, maybe 72, said he had been cutting hair since he was 15 back in his home country. I was midway through his fade and he just goes, hold your wrist loose, you are gripping the clipper like a hammer and that is why your lines wobble. So I tried it, loose wrist, and the blend came out smoother than anything I have done in months. He also showed me how he checks a fade with the back of his hand to feel the weight change instead of just eyeballing it in the mirror. Whole cut took me 25 minutes and he tipped me 20 bucks on a 30 dollar cut. Anyone else ever pick up a real technique from a client instead of another barber?
