Waited 6 months for a set of $350 clippers and they were DOA out the box

I've been going back and forth on whether expensive gear is really worth it or if you're just paying for the name. Back in February I finally pulled the trigger on some high end cordless clippers for $350 after hearing every barber rave about them. They showed up last week, charged them up, and the motor sounded like a dying cat right from the start. Had to deal with customer service for 3 days to get a return label. Has anyone else had a pricey tool fail on them immediately, or do you think spending big on equipment usually pays off in the long run?

Six months on backorder just to get a dud, that's rough. A lot of the hype around those $350 clippers is just marketing, not real quality. I've seen guys drop that cash on the latest model and have the battery crap out in a year, while my $80 Wahl still cuts fine after five years. The thing is, expensive gear can be great if it's built tough, but you're not getting any special guarantee just because of the price tag. If the company can't even send you a working unit from the start, that says a lot about their quality control.

Six months of waiting just to get a starter that sounds like it's dying should be a new level of disrespect from that company. They really charge $350 and can't even be bothered to test the motor before shipping it out. Customer service taking three days to give you a return label is the cherry on top of this dumpster fire. Honestly, at this point I'd be tempted to tell them to keep their overpriced clippers and go buy something that actually works. Sounds like you paid for the hype, not the quality.
