DAE argue with themselves about white noise apps vs. a fan before bed?
Last week my neighbor in apartment 3B mentioned she runs a rain sounds app on her phone every single night, and it got me thinking about my own routine. I've been a box fan person for about four years now, mostly because the app sounds too perfect and loop-y to me, like I can hear the exact moment the rain track starts over. But my girlfriend swears the phone is better since the fan dries out her eyes by morning and the app lets her pick ocean waves instead. So I tried her app for 20 nights straight and honestly I slept worse, but I can't tell if that's the app or just me being stubborn. The tricky part is my fan is loud enough to cover the neighbor's dog barking at 11pm, and the phone at half volume just doesn't do it. I keep going back and forth on this like it's a court case. Which camp are you in, real fan people or white noise app people, and did you ever switch sides?
Have you tried running the fan and the app at the same time, or is that just too much noise? I really feel for you here because that back and forth in your head is the worst, and it sounds like you already did the fair test by giving her app a full 20 nights. That's way more of a shot than most people would give it, and if you slept worse that whole time, that's your answer right there. The dog barking thing is the real deal breaker though, because a rain track at half volume won't touch a dog at 11pm and your sleep matters more than matching your girlfriend's setup. Maybe she uses the app and you keep the fan, since two people can have two routines in the same room. Either way you're not being stubborn, you just know what actually works for you.
