My brother said I was scrolling too fast through bedtime stories and he was right

I always fall asleep to those ASMR story videos on YouTube, but my brother watched over my shoulder one night and said I was skipping through them like I was in a hurry. He told me I was missing the whole point of winding down. So I tried his advice and actually let one 10 minute story play all the way through without touching my phone. Now I fall asleep way faster, like 15 minutes instead of an hour. Has anyone else had someone call them out on their phone habits before bed?

You say he "looked all tensed up" but maybe he was just focused. Some of us actually need that mental stimulation to get sleepy, not the other way around. If I put my phone in another room I just lay there thinking about work instead.

Man, your brother is totally right. I had the same thing happen with me and my wife. She caught me doomscrolling through Twitter right before bed and said I looked all tensed up. I thought I was relaxing but I was just feeding my brain more junk. Now I force myself to put my phone in the other room at least 30 minutes before I want to sleep. It feels weird at first but seriously, my mind actually shuts down now instead of racing. I think most of us don't realize how much our phones are keeping us awake even when we think we're chilling.

Yeah I totally get what you're saying. For me it was the blue light more than anything. I got one of those blue light filter apps and it helped a little but honestly the best thing was switching to a paperback book for that last 30 minutes. At first I hated it because my brain was so used to that constant dopamine drip. But after a few nights I noticed I was actually yawning naturally instead of just staring at the ceiling. The hard part is breaking that habit where you reach for your phone without even thinking. Once you get past the first week it gets way easier though.
