The white noise app that took me four nights to set up right

I kept waking up at 3am because my fan was too loud but the silence was worse. So I downloaded this white noise app and spent like 20 minutes messing with sliders for rain and thunder and brown noise. First night I picked the ocean one and my brain kept waiting for a wave to crash. Second night I tried rain on a window and it sounded like someone was tapping my bedroom glass. Third night I found the fan option but it had this weird hum at the end of each loop. Finally on night four I just combined the soft static with the lowest volume setting and put my phone across the room. Worked perfect. Why is there no simple preset for "just make it sound like an air conditioner with no rhythm"? Has anyone else sunk way too much time into this or am I just picky?
