The whole white noise thing finally clicked for me at 2 AM last Tuesday

I always thought people who listened to rain sounds or fan recordings before bed were just being dramatic. But I was tossing and turning for like an hour on Tuesday night, and my neighbor's dog was barking outside. Out of desperation I pulled up a 10 hour train cabin recording on my phone and laid it next to my pillow. Within 5 minutes my brain stopped focusing on every little creak and bark. I felt like an idiot for judging it all these years. Has anyone else fought against trying something simple like that and then had it work way better than you expected?

Wait is it really that deep though? I mean I get that barking dogs are annoying but a whole train recording seems like a lot.

Train cabin recording? Nah man, you gotta go full airport terminal announcements. Nothing says relaxing like a robotic voice telling you gate C12 has changed for the 4th time. But seriously, I fought the white noise thing for years. Thought it was just placebo nonsense for people who couldn't just 'calm down' on their own. Then I tried a box fan on high during a thunderstorm and woke up feeling like a legit human being. Now I'm the guy with three different sleep sound apps and a playlist called 'Ambient Garbage.' The irony is not lost on me.
