Why does nobody talk about the before and after effect of turning off notifications for an hour before bed?

I started doing this about 3 weeks ago, just silencing my phone at 9pm and not checking anything until my alarm goes off. The difference in how fast I fall asleep is honestly pretty big. Used to lay there for 45 minutes or more, now I'm out in maybe 10. Has anyone else noticed a big change from a specific bedtime phone habit?

My friend started doing this same thing about a month ago, she sets her phone to do not disturb at 8pm sharp. She told me she used to scroll Instagram in bed and then wonder why she couldn't shut her brain off for an hour. Now she reads a physical book for 20 minutes instead and she's asleep before her head even hits the pillow most nights. I tried it myself for a week and the difference was wild, I fell asleep so fast that I actually woke up confused thinking I had passed out or something. The blue light thing is real, but I think it's also just the mental break from all that noise that does the trick.

Wonder if it's really that serious @mila_murphy21 or just a placebo thing.

Oh man, @mila_murphy21 I feel this so hard. I tried the whole "no phone before bed" thing and I thought I was just going to lay there staring at the ceiling. But honestly after like three days I was out cold by 9:30pm and woke up feeling like a brand new person. It's not just the blue light it's the whole brain scrambling that scrolling does to you. My theory is phones are basically little dopamine slot machines and your brain thinks it's still in Vegas at 11pm when you're trying to sleep.
