Appreciation post: I used to think a $15 chain whip was fine, but after stripping a cassette lockring in a customer's bike last month, I finally upgraded.

Oh man, I was totally in that same boat! I had a cheap multi-tool with a flimsy chain whip that worked okay for my own bike. Then I tried helping a friend and the tool just folded, rounding off the teeth on his cassette. That awful grinding sound still haunts me. I spent more time trying to fix the damage than the whole job should have taken. Never again, good tools are worth every penny.

That grinding sound is the worst, like nails on a chalkboard. Learned the hard way myself with a cheap socket set that rounded off a bolt head. Had to drill it out, which took hours, all to save maybe twenty bucks. Felt like such a dummy. Now I just bite the bullet and get the good stuff, even if it hurts a little at first. Saves so much pain later.
