Found a tiny bike shop in Pittsburgh that saved my weekend
Rolled into Biketek on Penn Avenue last Saturday with a stuck seatpost on an old Trek. The owner, this guy named Jerry, had it out in 20 minutes with a torch and some penetrating oil. No appointment, no attitude, just $15 and a story about how he learned that trick in the 80s. Anyone else got a local shop that still operates like that?

That "no appointment, no attitude" part is exactly why those old school shops still survive. I had the same thing happen with a seized bottom bracket at a place called Spoke and Wheel in Cleveland, guy just grabbed a tool and popped it out while I waited. Those shops that work on the fly and actually know the old tricks are worth their weight in gold.

Reminds me of a shop in Pittsburgh that fixed my bike with a coat hanger...
