Had to choose between old Park Tool truing stand or a new cheap one last year

I was rebuilding a wheel for a customer's 1980s Schwinn at my shop in Denver and my old Park Tool TS-2 finally gave out. I had to pick between finding a used TS-2 on Craigslist for $200 or grabbing a new cheaper stand for $150. I went with the used Park and it's been rock solid after I replaced the tension springs. Anyone else find that older tools hold up way better than the newer budget stuff?

Man that's a bummer when a tool you've been using forever finally gives up lol. I had a similar thing happen with an old set of clippers - the newer ones just don't have the same heft or reliability. Sounds like you made the right call though, the used Park with some fresh springs is probably gonna outlast a cheap stand by years.

Dont you hate when you gotta put down a tool that's served you well like that? It always sucks when they finally call it quits, but at least you found a solid replacement that'll keep going for years. Nothing beats a good used find with some TLC.

Agree with you both, hate losing a trusty tool... @ray136 you're spot on about the old ones.
