Talking torque specs with a old school framebuilder changed my mind
Had a long chat with a guy who's been brazing frames since the 70s over at the local co-op in Portland. He said he never uses a torque wrench on steel, just feels it out, and told me I was overthinking alloy parts on a 90s road bike. It got me wondering, how many of you trust the click or just go by feel on older components?

The co-op guys have decades of feel dialed in, so their hands are basically calibrated wrenches already. For us normal folks on old steel, the risk is usually rounding a bolt, not snapping it, and a little patience beats any tool. That said, I still check a torque spec when something's holding a fork or crank, just not enough to haul the wrench out on every cable stop.
