That old mechanic who told me to stop using grease on pedal threads was right
Ngl I laughed at him when he said to just use anti-seize instead, but after 6 months and pulling a seized pedal off a customer's carbon crank with no damage I'm a believer. Has anyone else had a shop legend drop a tip that went against everything you thought you knew?

So what finally convinced you to try it?

Milaw hit the nail on the head with that story. Old bike shop guys have been doing this stuff for decades and know what actually works versus what the internet says. I had a similar wake-up call when a crusty mechanic told me to use electrical tape on my handlebars instead of bark busters for grip.

Started noticing the same thing with my car actually. Took it to this old timer who fixed the AC by just cleaning out a filter instead of trying to sell me a whole new compressor like the chain shops wanted. It's like there's this whole underground network of people who've been fixing stuff the simple way forever but the rest of us just buy new things because nobody taught us different. Makes you wonder how much money we waste on fancy solutions when tape and elbow grease would do the trick.
