Was at the big bike swap meet in Portland last weekend and saw a guy selling a bunch of vintage Campagnolo tools for way under market value. Felt like a steal, but my buddy said it's a red flag for stolen gear. What do you think?

Actually read a thread on a bike forum about this exact thing. Someone said deals that seem too good to be true at swap meets can sometimes be "hot," you know, stolen. But it's also possible the seller just doesn't know what they have, or needs quick cash. Your buddy has a point to be careful, but it's not a sure thing. Maybe ask the seller where the tools came from, see if their story seems legit.

Ask for a receipt if you can.

A receipt at a swap meet? Good luck with that. LucasSchmidt is right about the hot goods thing, it happens way more than people want to admit. You see a guy selling a full Snap-on set for fifty bucks, that didn't fall off his own truck. Asking where it came from is smart, but a thief will just lie. You gotta go with your gut, and if your gut says something's off, just walk away.
