Was setting up a wheelset for 10 years the wrong way
I've been building wheels since 2014. Always lubed the spoke threads with Tri-Flow before tensioning. Last month a old timer named Dave at my local co-op watched me lace a rear wheel. He says "you're just making them slip later." I blew him off at first. But after 300 miles that wheel went completely out of true. Switched to dry spokes with just a dab of oil on the nipple threads. Tension held perfect. Guess I was just making my own work harder. Anyone else have a habit they got told was backwards?.

Did I just find out I've been sabotaging my own work for a decade because some guy named Dave called me out? That's brutal but I love it.

Oh man, I had a similar wake-up call about three years ago when my friend Jenna filmed me working and showed me how I was holding the brush all wrong... I'd been doing it that way since I started and just assumed it was fine because nobody ever told me different. It's wild how your brain convinces you that your weird little habits are actually the "right way" until someone points it out. Dave probably didn't even realize he was dropping a truth bomb on your whole career like that. And now you get to start fresh and actually see how much better things can be...
