Wasted $60 on a fancy chain cleaner tool

Bought one of those chain cleaning machines with the rotating brushes and built-in reservoir. Used it twice and it just sprayed degreaser everywhere, made a mess of my shop floor. Took me longer to clean up than it would have to just scrub the chain by hand with a rag and some Simple Green. Anyone else ditch those gadgets and go back to the old way?

Man that sucks. I went through the same thing with one of those gadgets, ended up tossing it in a drawer after two uses. What worked for me was just getting a cheap parts cleaner brush from the auto store and a spray bottle with some kerosene. Spray the chain, scrub with the brush, wipe it down with an old rag. Takes maybe 5 minutes total and zero mess. Those fancy machines are a total gimmick in my experience.

Yeah but did you try using it with the right kind of lube? I swear half the problem with those machines is people dump in some thick sticky chain wax and it clogs everything up. I used mine with a thin aerosol degreaser and it worked okay for a bit but then the brush bristles got all bent out of shape. Are you still using that cheap brush from the auto store or did you upgrade to something stiffer?
