A power cut forced me to watch a show I avoided
I thought it would be slow, but the story pulled me in right away. Now it's my favorite binge.

Power outages are annoying but they make great excuses to try shows gathering dust on your list. I found my current favorite series during a storm last winter when the internet died. Keep a mental note of skipped shows for the next blackout.

During a 6-hour outage in July, I dug out my old radio and found a static-filled station playing audiobooks. I ended up listening to a full mystery novel I'd never heard of, and it was surprisingly gripping. Your post, @hannah_webb71, made me realize I should have a backup plan for entertainment beyond my streaming services. Now I keep a battery-powered radio and a list of local stations that broadcast stories during emergencies.

My grandma's house in Vermont always had a drawer full of puzzles for stormy nights. We'd spend hours piecing together landscapes while the wind howled outside, and it made me appreciate offline fun. That got me thinking about other low-tech backups, like keeping a deck of cards or a few paperback mysteries handy. Honestly, during last year's blackout, my family ended up telling stories by candlelight, and it was more fun than Netflix. Now I've added a solar charger for my e-reader to my emergency kit, just in case.
