Binged a whole season of a show just to find out it got cancelled on a cliffhanger

I spent last weekend watching this new sci-fi series on Netflix called The Signal. Got through all 8 episodes, really invested in the story, and then it ends with a massive cliffhanger. Looked it up online and they cancelled it after one season. Total waste of 8 hours. Has anyone else gotten burned by a cancelled show like this?

Ugh, that's brutal. My friend Sam did the exact same thing with a show called The Lost Room from years ago. She was so into the whole mystery box thing and then it just ended on this huge reveal and never got picked up again. She still brings it up sometimes when we talk about shows that got screwed over by the network. Such a bummer when that happens.

Ehh, I kind of get why networks cancel those though. They bank on a big mystery to hook people but never actually have a plan for where it's going, so by the time ratings drop the show's already painted itself into a corner.
