Finally finished The Expanse after 5 years of on and off watching
I started season 1 back in 2020 and kept dropping it because the first few episodes felt slow. Then two weeks ago I had a sick day and decided to power through. Suddenly everything clicked and I watched seasons 2 through 6 in like 10 days. The jump in production quality from season 1 to season 4 is wild, you can really see where the budget went. I think the turning point was the episode where they deal with the protomolecule on Eros. Has anyone else had a show that took them multiple tries before it finally hooked them?

Wait, you really can't tell the difference between season 1 and season 6? Like at all? Season 1 was so dark and cramped, I remember thinking they were filming in someone's basement half the time. Then by season 6 you've got those massive space battles and the orbital ring, it's like a totally different show visually.

The jump in production quality" is an interesting way to put it. I mean, sure the show gets bigger sets and flashier effects but I don't know if that's really what makes a show good. People act like a bigger budget equals better television. Half the time I can't even tell the difference between season 1 and season 6 honestly, it's all just spaceships and people yelling at each other. Glad you finally liked it but I've never understood the obsession with calling out when a show "gets good" like it's some big achievement. It's a TV show, not a life changing experience.
