Gave The Office a real chance for the first time last month and I just don't see what everyone loves about it
My wife and friends have been telling me for years that I need to watch The Office. So I sat down and watched the first two seasons. I kept waiting for it to click but it just never did. The cringe humor felt awkward more than funny to me. Michael Scott just came across as mean rather than goofy. I get that it's a classic and people quote it all the time but I feel like I missed the boat. Did anyone else try a show they were supposed to love and just walk away feeling nothing?

Honestly, did you watch the later seasons where the characters actually grow and the humor gets less mean?

Season 4 is when the show completely jumped the shark for me. They totally neutered Eric by making him all soft and sensitive, and that whole plotline with Buddy moving out felt forced and unearned. The mean humor was what made the show work, without it you just had a generic sitcom with character arcs that went nowhere. The later seasons tried way too hard to be wholesome and it killed the vibe.

Wait, do you mean you watched the whole first two seasons and still didn't like it? I actually used to be in the same boat, I gave up after season 1 because Michael just came off as a total jerk to me. But then my buddy made me watch the episode where he hits Meredith with his car and I dunno, something about how dumb and pathetic he is in that moment made it click. Now I think the early seasons are actually the best, the later stuff gets too nice and loses that edge you're talking about.
