I skipped The Bear for over a year thinking it was just yelling in a kitchen, finished season 2 in 4 days
When everyone at my gym kept talking about The Bear last year I rolled my eyes because I figured it was just another loud kitchen show with people screaming at each other. My sister finally sat me down in March and made me watch the first episode on her couch in Rochester and I got it within 20 minutes. The yelling is real but it is not the point at all, it is about grief and family and a guy trying to fix his brother's mess. I burned through all of season 2 in 4 nights, staying up past midnight twice, which is rough when I train clients at 6am. The episode called Fishes honestly wrecked me, I had to pause it and walk around my apartment. Now I want to know what else I have been wrongly avoiding. What show did you write off for dumb reasons and then end up loving?
The "just yelling in a kitchen" thing is exactly what kept me away from it too, then a buddy put on the pilot while we were eating takeout and I was hooked by the end of the first shift montage. Fishes messed me up as well, that dinner table scene had my chest tight and I had to stop it halfway just to breathe. I did the same dumb thing with Breaking Bad because I thought a show about a science teacher cooking drugs sounded like a bad joke, and it ended up being one of the best things I ever watched. Funny how the worst one line summaries hide the good stuff.
