I tried watching 'The Rings of Power' before 'The Lord of the Rings' movies and it was a total mistake.
I watched the first four episodes of the new show, got totally lost, and then binged the original trilogy over a weekend. The movies gave me all the context I needed to actually enjoy the series. Anyone else try to watch a prequel first and regret it?

Seen this happen with car manuals too. People skip the basics section, jump straight to the wiring diagram. Makes no sense. You need the foundation first. Stories work the same way, gotta know the world before you see how it got built.

Isn't it weird how a prequel can feel like the answer to a question you haven't even asked yet? Terry's right about needing the foundation. You watch the original story first, and then the prequel has weight because you know where it all leads. Without that, you're just watching random events with no stakes. The whole point is seeing how the pieces fit into a picture you already know. Starting with the prequel robs the story of its meaning.
