My brother in law said he never finishes a show past season 2, and now I can't stop noticing it in my own queue
We were sitting on his porch in Sacramento last weekend and he said it like it was nothing: 'I give a show two seasons and if it hasn't hooked me by then, I'm out.' I laughed at first because this is a guy who watched all 6 seasons of some zombie show twice. But then I got home and actually looked at my watchlist and it's rough. I've got 9 shows sitting there half finished, some paused at episode 3, and I can't even remember why I started them. Part of me wants to argue that slow burns are worth it, but he made a fair point that a lot of shows pad out season 3 and 4 just to keep the thing running. Now every time I hit 'resume' I'm asking myself if I actually care or if I'm just too stubborn to drop it. Do you all have a cutoff point, like a set number of episodes, or do you just bail the second it gets boring?
Does it really matter that much if you drop a show? People act like bailing on season 3 is some kind of character flaw, but it's just TV. Your brother in law sounds like he's got it figured out more than most people. If a show can't hold your attention in two seasons, that's on the show, not you. I've dropped plenty of stuff halfway through and never thought about it again. The stubborn thing is real though, sometimes you keep watching just because you already put the time in, and that's a dumb reason to keep going.
