My uncle told me to stick with The Americans past episode 3 or I'd regret it

Took his advice and pushed through the slow start and by episode 7 I was hooked so bad I finished all 6 seasons in 10 days, has anyone else had a show that took a few episodes to click?

I mean Breaking Bad's a good example, but I've got a question for you about The Americans - did you find yourself suddenly understanding the main characters' motivations around that episode 7 mark, or was it more about the plot picking up speed? For me it was watching Elizabeth and Philip really start to show the cracks in their marriage and their whole spy life that made everything click into place. That scene where they're just sitting in the car after a mission and barely talking said more than any big action sequence could. I feel like shows that take a while to get going are usually the ones asking you to pay attention to the small stuff first, and once you do the payoff is massive. So which was it for you, the character stuff or the plot twists that finally grabbed you?

Took me three tries to get through the first season of Breaking Bad, now it's my favorite show.

Episode 7 of Breaking Bad is exactly where it clicked for me too. @smith.anna I had the same struggle trying to get through those first few episodes but once Walt started making those small choices that snowballed I was hooked. For me it was the moment he let Jane die that made me understand the whole show. That one decision told you everything about who he was becoming and how far he would go. The show was really about watching a good man slowly turn into something else and you had to sit through all those early episodes to see it happen piece by piece. That slow burn is why the payoff hits so hard.
