My wife said my show picks were too 'samey' and it made me change my whole system

She pointed out last month that I only pick shows with big action scenes and sci-fi stuff, like 'The Expanse' or 'Altered Carbon'. So I made a rule to pick one show from a new type each time, like a comedy or a drama. Last week I tried 'The Bear' because it's about cooking, and I ended up watching all of it in two days. Has anyone else had a rule like this that got them into a show they loved?

Honestly, @jennifer_jenkins is right, a little structure can break you out of a rut in anything, not just TV.

Changing your whole system seems like a big reaction. It's just TV. If you like sci-fi, you like sci-fi. Your wife made a comment, not a new law. I get trying something new, but making a rule about it feels like turning a fun thing into homework. Glad you liked The Bear, but you don't need a system to watch a show.

Hold on, systems can actually make hobbies more fun, not less. Having a little structure stops you from just rewatching the same stuff forever. It's how you find new favorites you'd otherwise miss.
