Pro tip: Guard your show excitement around new acquaintances
I made the mistake of talking too much about a thriller I was binging with someone from my gym. They watched a few episodes ahead and casually revealed a key character's fate. This has happened with family members who scroll through social media while I discuss plots. They see spoilers and mention them without meaning to. Even a cashier once asked if I'd seen the big twist yet, ruining the surprise. In my view, it's best to save deep show chats for people you trust to keep pace. That way, you can enjoy the twists together without any letdowns.

Man, why do people have to ruin surprises like that? I get so into a show and then someone just drops a spoiler out of nowhere. It feels like all the fun is sucked out instantly. It's especially bad when you're really invested in the characters. What's a show you've had ruined for you this way?

I hear you saying all the fun gets sucked out, but I actually don't mind spoilers that much. When a friend told me the ending of a mystery show, I found myself watching for how the clues lined up instead of just waiting for the reveal. It turned into a different kind of fun, like putting together a puzzle. So for me, knowing the twist can sometimes make the ride more interesting.
