Saturday at a dive bar in Austin changed how I watch crime dramas forever

Some drunk guy at the bar pointed out every single plot hole in The Wire during a rewatch and now I can't stop catching the same stuff in other shows, anyone else have a random stranger ruin a whole genre for you?

Hold on a second though, The Wire isn't really the kind of show where you can point out plot holes in the same way. It's more about systemic failures and character decisions than lazy writing. I mean, calling something a plot hole in The Wire usually just means you missed why a character acted a certain way based on their situation. Maybe it's just me, but that drunk guy was probably just complaining that real life doesn't follow neat TV rules. That show is so dense and deliberate, most of what looks like a mistake is actually showing how broken the system is. Idk, I'd double check his examples before letting him ruin one of the best shows ever made for you.

I read somewhere that the show's creator actually planned out five seasons like a novel.

Yeah, "most of what looks like a mistake is actually showing how broken the system is" made me rethink some stuff I used to call plot holes.
