Shoutout to the show I almost skipped entirely
I kept seeing ads for "Dark" on Netflix and thought it looked like another boring German crime show. My buddy kept telling me to watch it, but I ignored him for like 6 months. Finally gave in last winter when I had nothing else to watch. Turns out it's a time travel thriller that's super well written, but you have to pay attention to every detail. I binged the whole 3 seasons in about 2 weeks. Anyone else almost miss a great show because of a bad first impression?

Three seasons in two weeks is pretty fast for that show, did you go back and rewatch any episodes after you finished? I had a similar thing with the expanse actually, kept ignoring it because the first episode felt like just another space show. But the thing with Dark is you really have to pay attention to faces across the different timelines right? Because if you miss one detail about who someone is related to the whole thing gets confusing fast. What was the moment that hooked you and made you realize you couldn't stop watching?

My neighbor's cat actually got stuck in a tree the same week I started Dark, and I spent like three hours watching him try to get it down while I had episode two paused. Poor guy finally just called the fire department and they brought a ladder, but by the time I got back to the show I had already forgotten which character was which. What really hooked me was the moment in season one where you see the same guy wearing the same yellow jacket in two different time periods and I realized oh wait that kid is the same person as that old man. I didn't even notice the first time I saw him because I was too busy staring at my phone during that scene. After that I put my phone in the other room and just watched with a notepad because I knew I was in way over my head.

Ngl @joel_martinez you hit on something real about rewatching. That yellow jacket thing dianahayes mentioned, I missed that the first time too because I was half watching while making dinner. But the moment that hooked me was actually way earlier in episode three or four, when you see the two kids walking through the woods and one of them just vanishes. I had to rewind like three times because I thought my eyes were playing tricks. Did you have that kind of moment with the expanse where you had to go back and see the same scene twice because you thought you missed something, or was it more of a gradual thing?
