Shoutout to the 'slow burn' show that finally clicked for me
I kept hearing people call 'The Bear' a comedy, but after three episodes it's clearly a high-stress drama about work. Anyone else get thrown off by the genre tags on streaming services?

Yeah, the "comedy" tag for The Bear is a real trip. I was braced for something light and got that scene in the first episode with all the ticket printers going off at once, which felt like a panic attack. It's a show about the stress of trying to fix a broken system, not jokes. Streaming services really do just throw labels on things.

Forget the comedy label, it's more about the weird rules of awards shows. The Bear got put in comedy at the Emmys because episodes are under 30 minutes, that's the only reason. So the tag isn't for viewers, it's for a contest. It makes you wonder how many other shows get sorted wrong just because of some old rule about runtime.

Totally get that. I went in expecting laughs and got straight up kitchen stress dreams instead. What worked for me was just letting go of the comedy label completely. I started watching it like a drama about a family and a job, and then the funny parts actually landed better because they felt real. The tension is the point, and the little bits of humor are like a pressure release valve.
