TIL the librarian at the Avondale branch in Cincinnati keeps a binder of shows people quit and why
I was killing time there last week while waiting on a closing and saw this worn old binder on the help desk. She logs every show people gave up on and how many episodes they made it, and she let me flip through about 30 pages of it. Turns out most people bail in episode 3, and she swears the ones that stick always have a good hook in the first ten minutes. Has anyone else run into a librarian or clerk who tracks stuff like this, and did their picks hold up?
Kept a note on my phone for a year doing the same thing, mostly with books. Wrote down the title every time I gave up and the page number. The pattern was almost sad: if I quit, it was usually around page 50. Made it past 100 and I almost always finished. Tried the same thing with a few shows and it lined up, three episodes or so and I was out. That page 50 rule got me to stop wasting whole evenings on stuff I was never going to like.
