Bowled a knife blank wrong and it threw a scale right into my arm

I was at my bench in Nashville shaping a chef knife out of 1084 when the tang caught the edge of my platen and sent a chunk of steel into my forearm, and now I always check my angles before I start the grinder belt, has anyone else taken a piece of hot metal to the skin from a simple misstep?

You ever get one of those wood splinters that goes in deep and your wife has to dig it out with tweezers and a sewing needle? That's what that sounds like, just a lot hotter.

Oh man, "dig it out with tweezers and a sewing needle" is exactly the right image. I had a gnarly one last summer from an old fence post, wife had to practically perform surgery on my finger while I was biting down on a towel. Hurt like crazy but honestly the relief when she finally got that little bugger out was better than almost anything.
