Coal vs propane forge for a weekend shop, I think coal wins my vote

I spent last Saturday running my old coal forge next to a buddy's propane setup in his garage in Austin, and after 8 hours of punching out hooks and small knives, the coal forge just felt more alive to me. The heat control was way more direct once I got the air right, but cleanup took forever and I reeked of smoke for two days. Am I crazy for preferring coal when propane is so much easier for beginners, or does anyone else stick with the old fuel out of pure stubbornness?

Used to swear by propane until I ran a coal fire once, now it's coal all the way for me.
