Found a trick to stop my anvil from ringing so loud

Last week I was working on a heavy draw knife in my shop near Nashville and that ringing sound was driving me nuts. I tried wrapping chains around the base but it only helped a little. Then I remembered something an old timer told me 3 years ago about magnets. I stuck a couple of strong neodymium magnets on the side of my anvil and it cut the ring down about 80 percent. Now I can actually hear myself think while I'm hammering. Has anyone else tried this or do you use something else to quiet your anvil down?

So like, did you have to play around with where to put them on the anvil or did you just slap em on there and call it a day?

Oh yeah, totally! My cousin tried the same thing and was shocked how quick it worked. He was worried he'd mess it up but said it was super straightforward.
