I wrote off coal forges as dirty junk, then my gas burner died on a Saturday in Akron
My gas forge's regulator crapped out mid-batch on a Saturday in Akron with 6 bottle openers still sitting cold on the bench. A guy from my club named Pete loaned me his old rivet forge and two bags of smithing coal, and I figured I'd spend the whole afternoon fighting smoke and clinkers. Turns out I had way more control over my heat and my welds came out cleaner than anything I'd done on gas in a year. Now I'm second guessing my whole setup, so who here runs coal and what do you do about the smoke when the neighbors are close by?
