Just dropped $800 on a proper post vise and it's a total game changer

I was working on some scrollwork last week and my old bench vise just wasn't cutting it, kept slipping and making my work sloppy. I finally bit the bullet and got a 5-inch post vise from a local supplier, cost me about $800 with the mounting hardware. Mounted it to a heavy stump in my shop and the difference is night and day, I can hold stock rock solid with one hand and hammer with the other. It's one of those tools you don't realize you need until you have it. What's the one piece of equipment you guys bought that you now can't imagine working without?

You said it's one of those tools you don't realize you need until you have it... I see that everywhere now, like a good kitchen knife or proper boots. You just suffer with the bad version until you finally upgrade, and then you can't go back.

My old vise was a total nightmare too.

Total nightmare" seems a bit much for a vise. It's a chunk of metal that holds stuff. Claire_gibson has a point about good tools, but come on. My old one was just stiff, not some life changing problem.
