My old mentor in Boise said to always quench a leaf spring in used motor oil, not new.

Tried it with fresh 10W-40 on a cleaver blank last week and got a hairline crack right down the center. What's your go-to quench medium for truck springs?

Used oil is just dirty new oil, makes no real difference.

But what about the metal bits and sludge?

Those contaminants can really mess up an engine.
