Shoutout to the old coal forge over the gas one I ran for 3 years
I ran a two burner gas forge for about 3 years before a guy in Akron sold me his granddad's coal forge for $150. The gas was fast to fire up but the coal gave me a softer heat I could watch, and my welds quit cracking because I could see the color better. I also stopped guessing when the steel was ready and went by sound and the way the fire looked. Still keep the gas one around for quick jobs, but the coal is what I reach for on real work. Anyone else make the switch back, or am I just being old about it?
