TIL that using old horseshoes for practice pieces cuts my metal waste

Repurposing scrap is good for the planet and your pocket.

Right? @dylanh52 gets it, free material is the best.

Scrap metal piles up so fast, and buying new practice stock gets crazy expensive. Finding a use for something that would just get tossed is the best feeling. Old horseshoes have such a nice curve to work with, too. It turns a problem into free material, which is a total win.

Hey, I never thought about the history in those shoes! (like, each one has been on a horse and seen miles of road.) That adds a cool layer to practicing, almost like you're working with a story. It makes the practice feel less like just bending metal and more like connecting to something older. Plus, that worn-in steel might react differently to heat and hammer, giving you a unique learning curve.
