Heard a kid at a con say 'why would you play anything made before 2015'
Was at PAX Unplugged in Philly last weekend and overheard this teenager telling his friend that old games like Catan are basically unplayable now. It stung a little cause I still bust out my 1999 copy of Acquire at least twice a year. Made me realize how much the hobby has shifted toward crunchy kickstarter stuff and away from the classics. Anyone else feel like we're losing something?

Read a blog that said kids think older games are boring, @christopher943.

Wait, did he really say Catan was "unplayable"? That's wild coming from a kid who probably doesn't remember what board games looked like before Settlers made them cool. The guy's missing out on some great games just because they don't come in a box full of plastic minis.

and @hart.sage nailed it with those plastic minis comment. i was at a game night last week and this kid pulled out a kickstarter game with a rulebook thicker than a novel and like 200 tiny painted figures. meanwhile my copy of Bohnanza from like 2002 still gets more table time than half that overproduced stuff. @hart.sage is right that the old games are what made the hobby what it is today, theres a reason people still play them.
