Hot take: The game night a guy critiqued my shuffle technique at Gen Con changed how I set up
Some random at a vendor demo called me out for shuffling cards too aggressively, bending the edges. Now I always sleeve and use a riffle shuffle, which actually keeps the cards nicer longer. Anyone else have a stranger change their table habits?

Sleeves totally change the game once you commit to them. The riffle shuffle feels way smoother and you stop worrying about bending cards into taco shapes. Plus it makes the whole table look more serious about game night.

The riffle shuffle comment reminded me of something I read about how pros handle card wear. Apparently some tournament players rotate their sleeves every few games to even out the edge wear, makes them last way longer. I started doing that and it's helped, especially with cheaper sleeves. Also read that overhand shuffling actually damages cards more than riffles because the edges hit each other more. Never really thought about that before.
