I've been teaching my friends to play Catan wrong for about two years, and the guy at the game store just looked at me like I'd grown a second head.

He asked why I thought you could trade resources with the bank at a 2:1 ratio from any port, not just the ones you've built on, and the silence in that shop was louder than a dice tower hitting the floor.

Oh man, I taught my whole family that Monopoly auction rule wrong for a decade.

Tbh it's just a board game, people act like a wrong rule is a crime. @the_thea those reddit confession threads get way too dramatic about it. The point is to have fun with your family, not follow a rulebook like it's law. If skipping auctions made the game better for your group, who cares.

Lol the "silence louder than a dice tower" got me. I saw a whole reddit thread once where people confessed their worst rule mess-ups, and the port trading thing came up a lot. @rowan658 that monopoly auction one is a classic too, my group used to just skip auctions completely until someone read the actual rules.
