Lost a key piece in my game bag and only noticed mid-round at my local game cafe on Saturday

I was setting up Terraforming Mars at Mind Games Cafe downtown and realized the tiny plastic marker for my player board was missing. I shook out my whole bag on the table, crawled under chairs, and checked all the floor cracks. Found it wedged between the game box insert and a folded instruction sheet. Now I always check my components before I leave the house. Has anyone else had a missing part ruin a game night?

Bag of ziplocs and a sharpie are your best friends for this. I keep a few snack sized ones in my game bag at all times. When I get a new game, first thing I do is sort every piece into its own baggie and label it with the component name and quantity. Takes maybe 10 minutes and saves you from hunting floor cracks later. Also, check your game box inserts - some of them have hidden slots or gaps that eat small pieces for fun. I had a worker replacement tile disappear into a folded rulebook for three months before I found it.

Used to think baggies were overkill but now I do the same thing after losing a tiny worker in a rulebook fold.
